Our angel Julia was born on July 25, 2006, and came into the world as a bundle of joy, full of energy. In October of 2008, Julia was diagnosed with Leukemia. We were hopeful as her prognosis was good, childhood Leukemia has a 90% cure rate. Unfortunately, Julia fell into the other 10%. She had a rare makeup on her Leukemic cell which was resistant to chemotherapy. On September 12, 2009, after a valiant 11-month battle, my beautiful baby girl took her last breath. It was devastating and we felt helpless. Julia is missed each and every day, our only wish being for her memory to live on.
There would have been eighteen candles lining the top of Julia’s birthday cake this July twenty-fifth. Whilst our baby lost her battle in 2009, the celebration of her life still shines through our lives today. Making her day a time of coming together and supporting other children faced with life-changing illnesses keeps her spirit alive.
The act of planning an event for others like Julia on her birthday lets us live the day with a positive outlook. We are able to feel close to our baby while helping the families faced with what she went through.
This year, we will be raising money for Ronald McDonald House Hamilton.
Through our own battle, we understand the toll it takes on a family, emotionally and financially. Our goal through every Julia's Journey event is to lessen their worry on the financial end, which is the least we can do.
We need the community's help to make our goal a new reality.
Although we wish Julia was still with us today, becoming a support system to those families in similar positions makes our day-to-day lives a little less heavy.
